PRAIRIE STATE SAMS
Celebrating 40 Years
1976 - 2016
I have to start with an apology to Richard and Jean. After taking over 130 pictures at our celebration the two below are the only ones I got of our host. I promise to do better getting pictures of our host and thanking them here for a great job. Thanks Richard and Jean, you blew the celebration out of the water, and forgive me if you can.......can you spot them?
Can you remember back 40 years and what life was like without grey hair (with hair) and teenagers in the house. You could fill up your brand new Plymouth that you paid $3100 for on $0.59 gas and hook it up to your $1200 pop up camper for a weekend in nature for a couple bucks at a state park. While you enjoyed the great outdoors " One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was playing in the movie theater and a couple guys named Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak played with some electronic components in their garage and created the Apple Computer Company. Our United States celebrated its 200th birthday of independence from British Rule and a few people gathered together and created Prairie State Sams.
PSS charter members Richard and Jean Skelly spent hours decorating and gathering memorabilia to remind us of our past. From the camper scene train layout, pictures, PSS Vest, awards display along with table decorations and a placemat that is a must have, I am sure everybody was impressed and enjoyed. We can't forget the beautiful cake that our cook, Ginger, made along with the fried chicken provided by Jean and Richard and all the other great dishes. Thanks is not a large enough word to express what we owe Richard, Jean and others for their forethought, efforts and hard work that has created Prairie State Sams that we are today.
Take a peek at our celebration as we look forward to seeing all at our celebrations later this year when our winter Texans and snowbirds return.
