CAMPFIRE CAMPING CLUB
TEXAS STATE DIRECTOR, DON AND SHRIL, ARRIVED AND MADE HOMEMADE ICE CREAM, YUM
PRAIRIE STATE SAMS LAST CAMPOUT FOR THE YEAR
The October campout has to go down in the book as one of the best for PSS. We had the opportunity to share the campout with a great group of camping friends (Campfire Camping Club) and Don and Shirl the State Directors from Texas. The Campfire Camping Club included members from Kankakee, Godly, Morris, Bonfield, Limestone, and other cities in the area. You could always find them huddled around the campfire that they kept going all weekend. The combined potluck provided many new dishes that where enjoyed by all. Don and Shirl provided an additional treat with homemade peach ice cream, help with our veterans blanket fund and of course an invite to enjoy the TX sunshine in place of IL snow this winter, that many of our member will be taking advantage of. Friday was an "All Hands on Deck" event when PSS member joined together to make 20 tie throws that will be presented to the Lady Vets at the Illinois Veterans Home at our next meeting. To our new camping friends, enjoy the pictures and hoping to share a campfire with you soon, it was a GREAT final campout weekend for 2015.
INFORMATION FOR DELIVERY OF BLANKETS TO VETS HOME:
All PSS Members:
After consulting with the Vets home we have come up with a time to deliver the throws and visit the lady Vets. Because of other planed activities at the Manteno Vets Home on Nov 14th, we need to be there at 10 AM. I know that is a little early and does not fit exactly with the lunch/meeting schedule, but Shirley checked with Brickstone and the lunch/meeting time has been moved up to 12:00, MAKE NOTE OF LUNCH/MEETING TIME CHANGE......
To meet this timeline we will meet in the Wal Mart (North) parking lot across from the McDonalds at 9:30. We will caravan from there to the vets home and assemble in the office of Shelly the activities director. She will have carts to put throws on and then take us to the ladies unit where we can distribute the throws and visit with each lady vet for a few minutes. Looking to have a group picture somewhere along the way but still need to check and find out if it's ok to take pictures with vets, will let you know at rendezvous point.
Vicki is looking at the possibility to create or purchase cards with PSS info and maybe a picture of chapter to be given with each throw, will keep all informed on this at a later date.
I cannot thank each of you enough for all the efforts put forth on this project. Last weekend at the campout working on the throws was a "All Hands on Deck" event with little arthritic fingers and large callused hands working together to show our appreciation, not to mention how deep you reached in your pocket to raise more than enough money. If you was not able to attend last week's campout you are more than welcome to participate on the delivery, hope to see a great turnout.
Thanks
jim
